The 64 was the first revolver I was issued when I became a Police Officer. The agency (federal) turned them in a few years after I got there. Now we carry Beretta 92FS. A couple years after we switched I asked one of our sergeants about the 64s and why we could not buy them from the agency. He told me that was the government's way, just pick them up and get rid of them somewhere else. He also told me that the agency had done a microscopic exam and found many of them to have microscopic stress cracks in the frames. Some of those 64s had as many as 20,000 rounds through them according to the Sergeant. Still wish I could have bought mine though.
