Default S&W 646 Performance Center Version

I am being offered a Smith 646 Performance Center version with carrying case and whatever else these guns come with for a grand total of $795.00. Gun is LNIB. Doing a bit of reading I see that about 600 "non-PC" 646s were made and a strong +$2K seems to be the normal "asking price". According to that fountain of gun knowledge Wikipedia there were about 300 PC versions made, but their reputation for sticky chambers (sorry for that visual) and that moon clips had to be used, the issues caused by that and differing ammo rim thickness, made the gun not exactly a great seller. Of course today's lousy seller is tomorrow's rare gun, I have a few misfits myself.

I'm not especially a fan of 4" adjustable sighted revolvers, at least this one doesn't have the lock and am pretty sure it has the hammer mounted FP, not MIM. Didn't look that closely.

I realize "asking price" is often pie in the sky, I wouldn't still see the guns on GB if they'd been bought after all. But in CA pretty much any good Smith is worth more than average. Have I stumbled on to a deal, or is this "just because it's rare doesn't mean it's valuable?
