True, but it is far easier to shorten the extractor rod and to keep it square! That is why the extractor rods come slightly oversize. Besides, being slightly off-square harms nothing at the end of the extractor rod, but
any amount off-square on the extractor collar results in a crooked extractor rod when it is tightened.
