The only reason I would not recommend this choice is because .22 Magnum will be very loud compared to the .22LR, and especially so when fired in a shorter barrel. Plus the ammo is more expensive, especially if the gun will be used for range/plinking purposes mostly. I love the rimfires and especially the .22LR. is not bad at all with HV ammo. If that's what a person can shoot accurately and well, then I say that's what they ought to use, even for personal defense. From my past experiences, I sure don't want even one of those in my chest area, much less more of 'em!

If the noise and blast of the magnum rounds in a handgun is not a concern, then by all means consider it!
