Although my eye is relatively untrained when it comes to registered Magnums, it looks like you have a winner. As for the presentation engraving, in my opinion it doesn't hurt and may help to give the gun some history, which is not evident on most. I'd certainly try to see if the good Captain had a war record that could be printed out to accompany the revolver. A S&W letter would also be a must.
