Many on the Smith Forum will also tell you
that the new guns are fine and in some ways
superior to the older ones, myself included.

And I, like you, have 50 years experience with
Smith & Wesson revolvers. But I do think you
have not really had any real experience with the
new Smiths. You are repeating some negative
reports that have appeared on this and other
forums.
