While not really a "rubber" grip you might take a look at the Precision Gun Specialties "Hideout" grips.

They are pretty compact and can be had for a K frame, so assume they will work on the L as well.

I always wondered if you could stipple them just a tad to rough up the grip a little. But then again they do make a textured version.
