NYC is bad for carrying knives and how they enforce knife laws. There are also people who have been arrested for carrying a “gravity knife” because the officer was able to open the standard folder with a flick of the wrist (centrifugal force). There has been some effort to clarify that portion of the law but no success last I heard.

Because of this if I were to carry a knife in NYC, it would be a manual open folder with a strong detent that requires some force to open and either not use a clip or ensure the clip isn’t visible.
