I'd stick with 81 North. You avoid DC traffic, the built up parts of MD & PA and you don't have to drive thru NJ at all. Pick up I 88 at Binhampton NY then take the NYS Thruway to I 90 & take that to the Mass Turnpike. This route also keeps you out of CT. What's not to like?
