Based on the serial number, which is very low, it likely shipped in....
1981 - 1982.
Product code was 104102. They shipped with Magna service stocks. It's possible it has a LEO history, since many of the early guns went directly to fill orders with service agencies.

One bit of trivia.... the S&W logo is on the right side plate. It was only inscribed there for a short period of time, before it moved to the other side -- where it still resides today 35 years later. It's an easy way to spot an early L-frame at a distance. Because of that, I knew right away it was a no-dash.
