Can you document this or point out a specific thread or post? In the cases I have read of here S&W would contact the owner and ask if they would like a different gun as theirs was not repairable.

I find it hard to believe that S&W would just send you a gun of a different model and caliber without contacting you first. I find it even harder to believe that they would duplicate serial numbers.
