The notion behind the .41 Special is a SIX SHOT L frame that can chamber a .41 cal round loaded to around 900-1000 FPS. Back before the .40 S&W, the 41 special specs were thought to be an ideal LE or PD load. Basically the same thing as the old .41 mag “Police Load”, but in a smaller lighter gun than the N frame M57.
