Default Man Ends Oklahoma Shooting Spree Using An AR-15

A retired Alabama police officer ended a mass shooting in a multi-county crime spree in Oklahoma, newly released law enforcement documents show.
The suspect, identified as former Colorado resident Austin Benson, has been charged with six counts of attempted murder in the first degree.

Apart from a few non-violent charges during his time in Colorado, which included possession of drug paraphernalia, the 29-year-old has no violent criminal history. Authorities say his motive for the shooting is unclear.

Benson reportedly began shooting into traffic on July 2 before he was confronted by a retired officer. No injuries or deaths were reported in the shooting. The retired officer said he told Benson “to get him water and that the law was after him.”

The retired officer said he didn’t engage until Benson turned his weapon on him. After returning fire, Benson reportedly tried to flee using a vehicle, but crashed into a tree. The man said he fired additional shots to see if Benson would respond. The man used two AR-15s during the exchange, using the second after running out of ammunition.

This is a classic story that gun-grabbers in the United States don’t want you to know about — a perfect case of a “good guy with a gun” stopping a bad guy with a gun. And, these sort of things happen far more often than you might think

Fortunately, Benson’s multi-county rampage did not result in any deaths or injury, but they could have easily done so if a private citizen who was willing to shoot back wasn’t enabled to respond. The truth is that, had his rifles been confiscated as many gun control activists would want, this situation could have ended very differently.

Thankfully, such bans were not in place in Oklahoma when a crazed gunman began attacking innocent civilians.
