Rescued a 4040PD today
Found this 4040PD on a local gun trader site and made a trade for it. All told, I have a little less than $300 in it with the gun that I traded. It came with a nice coat of Krylon, or two or three. This is what it looked like after I stripped off the rattle can job. Previous owner said he thought it had been cerakoted(thank god it wasn’t). I knew it was rough going in, but a quick field strip prior to trade showed that all of the high wear areas were in great shape. Took it to the range and put 100 rounds through it as fast as I could load the single mag that came with it. Performance was flawless. No issues at all and it shoots like a dream. Now that I’ve got the paint stripped off, I’m thinking of bead blasting the slide and frame after a full disassembly and polishing the rough spot around the mag release. After that...any ideas? Maybe durabake coating? What are your thoughts on a durable and attractive finish on a Scandium frame that would match the same finish on the slide?
