I just picked up a 8-3/8 PC 629 Hunter and it is a square butt. First new production N frame with a square butt I've bought in quite some time. I actually prefer the round butt frame with Hogue non conversion wood stocks. They point perfectly for me.
When they first went to round butt I tried a little experiment. Using square and round butt Hogues, I'd close my eyes with the gun at low ready, pick the gun up to eye level and open my eyes. With the N round the gun would be pointed perfectly. With the square the muzzle would be pointed high. Every time. Sold me on the round butt.
