To me it depends on the use of the gun. If it is mostly all within 50 yards or less, I like a red dot. The Burris FastFire3 is great, but quite a few makers have a very similar type heads up unit. (More compact and lighter than the tube type red dots).

If I would be shooting greater that 50 yards, I wold begin to consider a scope. This would mostly be a hunting situation, and a 2-7X normally handles anything out to a couple hundred yards (which is the limit of my handgun shooting).
