Yes. The first K-38 Heavy Masterpiece carried serial number K66222, and it shipped from the factory on August 19, 1948 (which, by the way, is
mid-summer).
Both versions were produced side-by-side for quite a while. I have K-38 Masterpiece number K75711 with the standard barrel/narrow rib, and it shipped in April, 1949.
