my limited experience considered, the new 686+ i saw yesterday had burrs everywhere in the cylinder lugs, a missing chunk from the extraction star, and feels half as smooth as any of the 90's and younger model. Similar nasty machine marks and burrs on a new model 66's i've picked up too. "satin stainless" doesnt hit me like the old finishes either.

That said, I guess you can buy overpriced(*) guns of questionable quality new OR used
