The 5943's DAO trigger should feel slightly better than the 457's TDA double action trigger pull.

Seems to be more common on the large frame 3rd Gens.
It's annoying but you can safely shoot the pistol with it broken.
California Highway Patrol used to order their new 3rd Gens from S&W without the spring installed.
