Thanks to everyone for the input thus far. I'll recheck the number on the bag, but I'm pretty sure that's what's written on there. The number had been written was on the bag by S&W when I received it years ago.
The part is definitely a spring, not a rod. Nor is it a 10XX-series recoil spring that goes on the guide. I've got plenty of those.
This one is more the size of a mainspring that goes on the strut under the grip.
