There is always a selection of knives on my desk, available for whatever duty may present itself. Once in a while, if I am messing with my Opinels, I might have a whole pile of opinels.
There will usually be one or two Anzas, a CRKT folding razel, my Laconico Keen flipper, Baryonyx Grimalkin, Varusteleka Mini Skrama, Becker BK14 Eskabar, and three Moras clipped to my mail divider. There is also an uglly red Frost trapper that never leaves my desk.
Other knives may cycle through, sometimes replacing the above list, other times just adding to the clutter. I never have to reach very far to open a letter, slice a salami or cut up an apple. In the unlikely event I needed to lacerate somebody, I would most likely reach for the Skrama or Condor Golok ready at my right hand.
