My experience with the textured grip was with the J-frame version, and it was significantly different from the smooth version. The textured grip was like really coarse sandpaper. Just holding it was uncomfortable enough that I never bothered trying them at the range. The smooth grip has a slight pebble-grain feel, and is less grabby on covering garments.

But it shouldn't be a problem to sand them down if they're too aggressive. I do that with the sandpaper version of Talon Grips.
