Be aware that this is amphibian memory from about 40 years ago, but I got a Model 29-2 about then, but with a 4” barrel. I decided I wanted to shoot handgun silhouette so I found an 8 3/8” barrel and had the late Fred Schmidt install it. I was getting good results by taking the old Keith bullet and dropping back on his powder charges to about 18.0 gr or so of 2400 (IIRC) but please check with other sources to be sure.
I agree with those who like the lighter weight of the lug-less barrel, especially when you have 8 3/8” of barrel length out there. IMHO any load you should be shooting in that gun will have its recoil sufficiently damped by that barrel, more weight just isn’t needed. Of course, YMMV!
