The S&W recoil springs are pretty good. The Wolff springs, I think, are a little higher quality. Either way, stick with the factory rating. As for replacement intervals, springs are cheap, firearms are not, so I replace springs in my 9mm S&W pistols every 2500 to 3000 rounds.
