I’m in the camp that says 1911’s should be .45 acp. Not because I’m a fan boy of either the gun or the cartridge. Rather because of magazine compatibility. I have a pile of 1911 magazines that all work in all my 1911’s. I’m not going to add in a few odd balls to mix up.
But if you really like the cartridge and want something different go for it.
The only way I’d buy a .40 caliber 1911 would be if I had unlimited access to free ammo.
I do have a standard R1 that is a great gun.
