Here's my one and only 3rd Gen S&W Auto.

The S&W 4006TSW CHP model. Only about 10,000 of these were ever made as part of a special order by the California Highway Patrol to Smith & Wesson, years after the 4006TSW had been discontinued on the civilian market.
My example shows a bit of external finish wear, but internally it's like new, which clearly indicates that while it was carried often, it was shot very little. The gun came shipped in a factory blue clamshell case which was not original to the firearm, (they were reportedly originally shipped to the CHP in cardboard boxes) and the grips have been replaced with brand new Hogue rubber grips, meaning the original grips were most likely broken. I've been debating on whether or not to replace the Hogues with a nice pair of KSD Rosewood Grips, but they're expensive and require a grip pin which wasn't included with mine since the Hogues are secured by screws.

Overall, I'm very impressed by just how tanky the 4006TSW CHP is. The gun is big, beefy, and heavy, but considering that I purchased this as a range gun, that's a good thing because it should soak up recoil of .40 S&W nicely and outlast me at the range.
