Sounds like a nice plan. I have a decent 547 3''. As far as action work I do not know how much can be accomplished. I'm no Smith, but know my way around inside AND FOR ME the best I could do was stone and polish and that did help out with the rather stiff trigger pull.
Two people I know and trust, one being a gunsmith said not much can be done like a spring kit or spring mods as it needs a heavy hit to set the top cartridge holder and also give the lower firing pin a good hit.
