If you want to roll your own for SD use, perhaps try ordering from rim rock bullets.

They offer a soft gas checked 38 cal swchp. These are the ones that buffalo bore uses (according to rimrock). While not cheap, if I was worried about expansion out of a J-frame, then these are the ones I would use.

PS: I have used the speer 158 swchp for reloads and I have had a lot of trouble getting them to expand under 1000fps.
