In WA the DOL keeps the CPL records and a plate check by WSP or sheriff will ID you as having a concealed permit. Carrying a loaded pistol in a vehicle is verboten in this state without a CPL. I've never been asked because they already know.

Now if you happen to have a loaded pistol on your person or one in your vehicle, I find it unlikely that the first thing you're going to say to LE is I have a loaded weapon. You probably won't tell the truth when asked either.

So that gets us to why ask. If the officer has any doubt they need to search, and probably will.
