Age 16, first time out with the old guys white tail hunting. Had been told about "buck fever" and since we were shotgun only state, I had my brand new Ithaca Model 37. We got out there very early morning (oh dark thirty) and I don't think it was 10 minutes into legal time and I got a beautiful broadside shot on a nice buck. Took the shot, the deer dropped on the spot.... my elders came over and I called out "Holy $&*! - did you see that?".
Pop's right up side my face immediately (no cussin around our place in those days) so I learned that day to not ever "call" my shots again.
I know....not in line with this thread....but etched in my memory.
