When I was young and single with my own place I could not abide a loaded gun unless it was on my person. I could have a dozen loaded in my pockets and belt but not one out of my control. We had guns all over the house when I was a kid. Shotguns and rifles. My dad didn’t believe in accidents and guns were just tools. He was very safety oriented there was never any lose ammo around. He also cautioned us on kids we may have visiting. The ones who didn’t have guns at home would be the ones fascinated and want to fool with gun, while kids who had them at home paid no attention to them. Most people in our area had guns and never remember any problems. Once a kid got shot playing on town dump when they found old shotgun. It went off when they were pulling it out of a pile of trash. That kid never had children either and died in his late 40s from complications of the shooting.
