I know exactly how you feel, it's been 11 years since my dad passed very unexpectedly, and I still feel the same way as you. My sincere condolences.

And I also know how a spike buck cannot be avoided! But I was driving a '57 Pontiac in about 1971. A tank of a car weighing 4200 lbs., and much higher than current cars. I hit mine at about 45 MPH but it went down under the massive juke box like bumper and wedged under the driver's seat. It left a long grease trail until I got the car stopped and witnesses grabbed the legs while I backed off of it. No damage except the bumper flexed enough to girdle one front tire, so I had to put the spare on. The deer didn't suffer; dead on impact.
