I have an S 844- that shipped in October 1946, so yours likely is a month or two earlier, assuming it starts as an S 833- and the missing digit comes after. The entire S-prefix series evolved from the military, then commercial SV-prefix guns and did indeed get its prefix thanks to the new hammer block.
