I've been playing with 45-70 for almost 40 years, I only wish I could get Hollywood performance from my rifles. With the "Marlin" load shooting a guy with a ballistic vest on, and the bullet stops against the rear plate the almost 4000 pounds of energy might throw a 170 pound man a little bit, But I would expect a 2200fps 400 gr hard cast or heavy jacketed to pass through both sides of a 44mag rated vest! Nobody has volunteered for me to test this theory...yet! (at that distance: 50 yards) 500 grain lead bullets at 1250fps pass all the way through a buffalo.
