Sometime in 1980 S&W went from the pinned in blade front sight to an all milled unit...have no clue what they were thinking as if someone crashed the front blade the whole barrel would have to be replaced or the blade would have to be milled off and the base milled&drilled to take a new blade.

I had three 1980 vintage 57s at one time. The blue one I still have has a pinned front sight blade. A later blue and a Class A engraved nickel do not. Not sure if or when they went back to a pinned in front blade before the 57 was discontinued.

Gunsquirrel...if you look under the front sight blade on the side of the ramp you will see (or not see) a round pin polished flush...does your gun have one?
