Advocates of gun control very frequently desire controls over other peoples' guns. In other words, what they truly want is control over other people.
This is not the first time that a congress-critter with anti-gun credentials has shot an intruder. I recall another case several years ago when a strongly anti-gun legislator shot an intruder in his Washington, DC residence with an unregistered, illegally possessed handgun. Result? No charges, even though such possession and use of a handgun was a felony offense in Washington, DC at the time.
Double standards are the norm for many of our elected officials.

Well, there's a lot more to this story than simply shooting an "intruder".
TABOR CITY The man shot Sunday by state Sen. R.C. Soles Jr. had been to the elected official's Tabor City home before.
Thomas Kyle Blackburn, 22, was arrested last year and charged with trespassing and attempted breaking and entering at the senator's home, according to police records. Those charges were later dropped.
An attorney for Soles said Monday the senator was acting in self-defense when he shot Blackburn in the leg with a handgun.
The State Bureau of Investigation, already reviewing accusations that Soles improperly touched a teenage boy 12 years ago, has taken control of the probe into the shooting. SBI officials would not comment on the investigation.
Local residents were tight-lipped when asked about Soles, 74, a Democrat who is the Senate's longest-serving member.
Blackburn was released Monday from a hospital across the state line in Loris, S.C. He could not be reached for comment.
B.J. Wright, 23, was also at Soles' house when the shooting occurred, according to police. He also could not be reached Monday.
Nor was Soles talking. The senator met at his Tabor City law office for at least two hours Monday with Joe Cheshire, a criminal defense attorney from Raleigh.
As Cheshire left the senator's office, he said that Soles' actions were justified and that the shooting was recorded by video surveillance cameras at Soles' house.
“Senator Soles is sorry that this has happened,” Cheshire said. “But when someone comes to break in your house, you have a right to defend yourself... It's pretty clear from what I've seen that he had a right to do what he did. He's tired and upset at this point.”
Cheshire said Soles shot Blackburn in the leg.
“It's pretty clear he wasn't trying to kill him,” the lawyer said.
Rex Gore, district attorney for Columbus, Bladen and Brunswick counties, issued a statement saying he has not determined what, if any, criminal charges might be filed.
“We are still in fact-gathering mode,” Gore said.
A supervisor for Columbus County's 911 call center said that there was no tape of any calls about the shooting because no one ever called 911.
No ambulance was dispatched to treat the wounded man.
The heads of two local law enforcement agencies that went to the senator's home after the shooting, the Columbus County Sheriff's Office and the Tabor City Police, said there were no written reports about the shooting.

Sen. Soles seems to have lots of connections with young men that end badly:
Well, technically, it’s the Tabor City home of Allen Strickland, a 17-year-old who was formerly a client of the longtime state senator, an attorney. But Soles paid for the house. Now, it’s been gutted by a fire that police suspect may have been arson: Strickland says he woke up around 4 o’clock Wednesday morning to a room full of smoke, and tried to escape through his bedroom window, but it exploded, burning his arm. He finally made it out through a back window upstairs.
“It was either stay in there or jump out, so I jumped out,” Strickland said. “When I got down I laid on the ground and thanked the Lord that I made it out of there”
About 45 minutes before the fire, Strickland says he heard someone knocking at his front door. But before he could see who it was, they were gone, and Allen went back to bed. He says there’s a lot of people who could have set his house on fire.
“This whole town is jealous of how I got that house, how I got my car, how I get money and all, and everybody just can’t stand it,” Strickland said.
When asked if thinks someone was trying to kill him, he replied, “Yeah, somebody is trying to hurt me. Whoever did it, they did it with the intention of me getting killed”
Allen says Senator RC Soles paid for his house, his car, and gives him a regular allowance as part of an arrangement they have if Allen agrees to finish school.

Are you sure that was a "congress-critter?" I believe you are thinking of the Carl T. Rowan incident, in which he shot a teenager skinny-dipping in his pool; clearly an Imminent Threat. Rowan was no elected official; he was a mere columnist.
Note that he got his illegal gun from his FBI agent son. NEITHER were ever prosecuted for these unlawful acts.

Don't be silly. Of course "gun control" laws /policys don't apply to those who make them. (or support them) Only the "low brow, knukle dragging" common folk.

Guess you bitter clingers will never understand, sigh?
It's done for your own good. You wouldn't want to risk one of the nasty things going off and frightening some higher than the Hubble telescope genetic misfit, coming through your 13 year old daughter's bedroom window at 2 AM, would you?
He might end up with PTSD!

You are correct, sir. Thank you for filling in details that my aging brain has difficulty with.

Nothing new here. Remember Dianne Feinstein and her concealed carry permit?
This is SOP for the left, only the "proletariat" need not bear arms, party members need them for self defense.
