If memory serves, it wasn't too long ago that NJ wildlife officials recommended and approved a bear season, only to have it overridden by the Governor, or some such scenario, in the face of public outcry. Once a few human infants or toddlers get consumed by bears public sentiment will change. Note: sentiment, not science, will determine the outcome of this issue, as politicians will ultimately decide how to manage NJ bear populations, and politicians are unlikely, as ever, to make appropriate decisions.
