Default Guilty of a " Reckless Love Affair with guns " ?

The following quote is from a lawsuit filed on July 6 to over turn Chicago's ban on gun stores and ranges. See John Lott's website for details . My hunch is that many of the readers of the S&W Forum will have to plead guilty to Alderman Lyle's charge.

"Alderman Lyle forecast that future generations would react to the Supreme Court’s decision in McDonald with “shock and awe. They will be amazed that in a country that is a leader of the free nations that we have such a reckless love affair with guns,”

You only need to see the words "Chicago" and "Alderman" together to put things in the proper context.

Cops and Aldermen are the only ones in Chicago allowed to carry, and until a few days ago, to register new handguns. Given the number of Aldermen who've gone to prison, not only should they not be allowed to carry, they should constitute a discrete category of "prohibited person".

In Chicago, Alderman is a synonym for gangster.

Coming from one of the members of Rotten Richard's depraved Democratic machine, his response is not at all surprising. Don

Ah, come on cmort, you know that there are other “connected” people in Chicago who have not only registered handguns but have permits to carry. Unfortunately the list is not available to the public.
It is safe to say that with the exception of LEOs and Judges no honest person has been able to register and certainly not to carry concealed. (I think it’s a great leap of faith to say that all Chicago LEOs and Judges are honest, but...)
Ah, but with the right connections in Chicago, all doors can be opened.
One of the sons of a syndicate biggie was arrested for pistol whipping an honest citizen after a minor traffic accident when I lived in Oak Park.
There was a bit of publicity, but the Don’s son was licensed to carry, and the citizen dropped charges. I suspect the suits came to see the citizen with large sums of money and an offer he could not refuse.
