Senator Feinstein insults nation's veterans

Before the Senate Judiciary Committee last week Senator Diane Feinstein stated her belief that all veterans are mentally ill and the government should deny their access to firearms.

Somehow I managed to complete 2 tours in Vietnam (airborne infantry, combat infantryman badge, purple heart, etc), raise two sons to responsible citizenship (one is a veteran, by the way), serve 24 years as a cop (including nearly 7 years as a chief), run a couple of businesses successfully, pay off all of my bills, and save enough for a comfortable retirement. Now, after having gone to all that trouble, I find out that all this time I've been a mental incompetent!

I want a disability pension, back-dated 41 years, and a check delivered to my house by Senator Pelosi. Maybe while she's here she'll want to pick up my guns and ammunition (maybe I should just give her the ammunition? I'm not sure she is stable enough to have firearms).

Someone tell me if I'm just being too touchy here.

Some people you just know what to expect from them.

You expect defenses of child molestation from NAMBLA members.

Add that fellow from Utah to the list, and a few dozen others we all can think of, but the problem is, we keep wishing for this and it never happens. If all military members have mental problems, what about the ones in "harms way" now? do we take their weapons away in say Afgan.. because they might shoot someone? Or all our military bases here in the USA? I don't think so Senator. Wait a second haven't we in our 200+ years had Senators and even Presidents who were in the Military?? (well not lately and maybe that is part of the problem) Viet Nam was not fun for me either (5 week coma from bleeding too much) and coming back to being spit on and call baby killer was worse (in San Francisco where I was released from the Service)

She didn't say every military member has PTSD. She says that PTSD is new, they didn't have it before the Iraq war, and that since a gun dealer can't tell if someone has PTSD she doesn't want to exempt veterans from an assault weapons bad because the Clinton one didn't and with this new-fangled PTSD thing veterans might be dangerous.

We're upset by this but for the wrong reasons.
1) She clearly has no idea what PTSD even is... Its not a military thing its a survivors of Trauma thing. Which mean that pretty much anyone who's survived a Trauma can have it.
2) Why the hell would a gun dealer even NEED to be a part of determining whether a buyer was a victim of PTSD? Shouldn't... you know... a doctor be involved with that?
3) Mental injuries/disorders that mean a person could be a threat to themselves or others should be a disqualifying event... but suggesting that servicemen and women are more likely to have it is asinine.

Clearly Ms. Feinstein, again, doesn't have any idea what she's talking about. And, THAT, is the real reason we should be cranked up about this, people should at least have a basic idea what they are talking about BEFORE they legislate on it... there should be some kind of test

Its a pattern-the mantra of those who despise the armed forces-After Vietnam it was vets are all on dope, they left babies in Vietnam, they divorce their wives (taking all the retired pay) they're uneducated (hence-all officers must have degrees) they kill babies, double dip, ad nauseam.
Now, its PTSD, they have too many benefits, they need to lose vet preference for jobs (or at least equalize it with everyone else) there is some kind of benefit to being in combat (?-wow) they shouldn't have Chaplains, and they go nuts and kill people. They have too many BCTs-even though we are still fighting-still deploying (I remember the horrible RIFs of the late '70s).
The percentage of citizens who serve is tiny-and who needs these "combat heroes" when you can have all the phony ones you need?

My son is on active duty-with three combat tours-my advice to him? For Gods sake stay with it-the soldiers need good leaders-Its all about duty, honor, country-taking care of your fellow troopers-It's a calling far above the character of Diane Fienstein.

Seems like a good remedial course of action for some higher ups in the executive branch, also. Of course, then they will have a history of being treated for a mental disorder, and that would make them ineligible to own firearms under their own standards. I guess that shouldn't worry them, though. They all have armed bodyguards, not usually available to Joe and Josephine Schmoe. The privileged "ruling class" knows that the rules don't apply to them - they transcend such rules, because they are so special. Pardon me while I gag.

Feinstein is part of the intelligence committee. She is a big supporter of the spying on the American people. The only thing keeping the government from overrunning its own people is the 2A which she wants to abolish.
She took an oath like soldiers but the difference is that the soldiers will defend the constitution against any enemy, foreign or domestic. So they are dangerous for a out of control government.

It sounds a little bit like tinfoil talk but looking back in history, isn't the U.S gov going down the same path other governments took before turning into tyrans ?
The U.S constitution is non negotiable!
And I am ashamed that we claim to be a democracy yet we have a secret court which has not to follow the standart legal procedures while determining behind closed doors how far the government can infringe on our constitutional rights.

Combat veteran Iraq here... Not condoning any sort of special privileges for any one group. But what makes you think that a combat vet doesn't deserve any special privileges for serving and risking their lives for the very amendment we all love and cherish!!

Special rights? No. Privileges? Some, sure. I do not think you should be able to own firearms that we cannot own regardless of your your training or service. All the citizens in the U.S. are the militia but certain set of folks in this country think otherwise. Same goes for police officers.

It's real simple, we who serve, have served, or are serving would be the first on the line to defend the constitution from those who'd usurp it! And she knows this!
