Default Why the Japanese did not Invade USA

Not saying this is actual TRUTH...but makes sense!

Here's an interesting side bar.
After the Japanese devastated our fleet in Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941, they could have sent their troop ships and carriers directly to California to finish what they started. The prediction from our Chief of Staff was we would not be able to stop a Massive invasion until they reached the Mississippi River. Remember, we had a 2 million man army and war ships....all fighting the Germans.

So, why did they not invade?

After the war, the remaining Japanese generals and admirals were asked that question. Their answer....They know that almost every home had guns and the Americans knew how to use them.

The world's largest army... America's hunters! I had never thought about this....A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and arrived at a striking conclusion:

There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin..
Allow me to restate that number. Over the last several months, Wisconsin’s hunters became the eighth largest army in the world.

More men under arms than in Iran..

More than in France and Germany combined.

These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt with firearms, and no one was killed.

That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of Pennsylvania and Michigan 's 700,000 hunters All of whom have now returned home.

Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.

The point?

America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.
Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.

That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us disarmed. Food for thought when next we consider gun control.

I have heard something similar. There are a lot of hunters in every state. It would be a force to be reckoned with. then you have to add in all of the hunters that have military training making it even better.
Peace, I hope,
Gordon

I am sure a NYC liberal would be able to scratch their faces and cause them to flee our Country. There is no need for guns!

With respect, I am not aware of any sources that would indicate Japan ever considered an invasion of the U.S. mainland. Their military operations prior to and up to the Battle of Midway were predicated upon control of the Pacific and establishment of "The Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere." Even the most optimistic understood they did not have the necessary manpower, hardware or naval capacity.

The comment (explaining why an invasion was never attempted) made by a senior Japanese commander after the war actually was something like this: 'Because we knew that there would be a rifle behind every blade of grass'.

Best regards.

I read recently that Americans buy enough arms every year to equip the Chinese and Indian militaries combined. That's EVERY YEAR! Add to that the approximately 1.1 billion rounds of ammo sold in the US each month and you have a force that no country on earth, or group of countries for that matter, could ever successfully invade by force of arms. In spite of that fact the invasion of the US is ongoing and continues because we refuse to close the southern border. Our enemy is here already and re-enforcements arrive daily.

Actually they never intended to invade the US. They hoped, in knocking out our fleet at Pearl, we would negotiate a deal that would allow them control of the Pacific Ocean in their part of the world. Being an island nation they imported everything and needed to control the seas to do so. Some of the brass understood the Americans and warned against the attack. Politics prevailed, hence the war. They didn't understand us then any better than we understood Vietnam or Iraq when we went to war against them. Politicians can sometimes be their own worst enemy.

I believe Steve is correct. Japan wanted the Indochina oil fields as they were vital to its survival and the US Fleet at Pearl Harbor was the only thing that could stand in their way. Japan had no interest in the USA, only the Navy Fleet.

I'm pretty sure Japan wasn't focusing on deer hunters when they decided not to invade the US. They were thinking about the huge additional front 5000 miles away. Add in that the most the major industrial areas were in the East, where they'd be difficult to get to. The US could train those deer hunter and send them to the war with endless tanks, planes, bullets and bombs.

Default Alaska Wasn't a State

But neither was Hawaii.
The Japanese did occupy a couple of Aleutian Islands for about a year. I worked with a veteran of the campaign that ran them out.
