Exclamation Impeach Feinstein Petition

Lets send a message:

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/pet...e-awb/sdKKkKJ5

"WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:
Impeach Sen. Diane Feinstein for violating her oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, re: AWB
Sen. Diane Feinstein has announced that she will be introducing new gun legislation in Jan 2013. The proposals of this legislation are in direct contradiction to both the spirit and letter of the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights. Her blatant disregard for the rights of citizens, and willingness to make criminals of a large number of law abiding gun owners, needs to be addressed..."

In all seriousness, how do you envision this increasing the likelihood of things getting better?

I think it's more a venting of frustration to some like minded individuals. Besides, if she went for that, a lot more would be walking the same plank.

Sends a message. The herd mentality of the public is undeniable. They see a petition like this and it just may make them think. Do you see a harm?

If it just makes you feel better to sign it, go for it. If you think it might actually help sign it. Either way it can't hurt.

There are people (anti-gun) out there just waiting to "bait" every supporter of the 2nd A into something they will call a "rant" and try and paint them as "radical gun nuts". Let's consider everything we do carefully, both our words and actions, so that we come across as responsible, mature people who just happen to carry guns and believe in the constitution (2nd A).

Honestly, I'd think that this might actually sway someone who was on the fence toward thinking that gun people are loons. And, given Feinstein's popularity with her constituency, I'm sure that this will not make her feel anything but pride at having gored her enemies enough to cause them to do something vaguely silly.

Have you read the summary of the bill she is promising to put forth in Jan?

Her proposals violate Constitutional precepts in so many ways, it is simply outrageous. If you haven't been paying attention to the issues, then I would see how strong reactions could come off as "looney". But in the context of what Feinstein is proposing, I don't think there can be an over-reaction, barring open insurrection. imho

No disrespect intended toward your motive, but yes, I see a harm.

I think it makes us look laughable.
I agree with Eric that Sen. Feinstein will relish this. I think she'll make clever little jokes about it at DC cocktail parties and Committee meetings. IF it really takes off, I can envision a cute conversation between the President and her when he informs her 2,000,000 people signed a useless (see below) petition about her on the WH website. I hate the thought of being responsible for a smile on either face.

I think it makes us look UNinformed.
The President cannot impeach a senator. The President cannot introduce a bill of impeachment. Only a senator could introduce such a bill. Good luck with that.
Let's look like a REAL force to be reckoned with.

It may appear that storming the castle with pitchforks and torches will have an effect, but when they start pouring the hot oil and boulders over the ramparts it will be readily apparent they have little to fear from the shouting mob.
Instead, I want them to see the siege engines that can breach their walls slowly approaching from the horizon. Our siege engines are the NRA.

Our best efforts would be spent in strengthening the NRA. They have the machinery and the people to BEST fight the fight. Contact the NRA, and tell them we want to fight it to the end; that we should win, or, (metaphorically speaking) be found dead on the field.

Contact your senators and representatives.
Get your wallets out.
Remember the words of Ben Franklin.

Points well taken gentleman. I know this is little more than graffiti on the wall but it is a national wall. I also know that no impeachment proceedings would probably ever get started whether in the in Congress or from other quarters. Certainly the president has no power to impeach, no more than he has to deport Piers Morgan. But I do believe it can send a message. I have written my reps. I have donated to the NRA as well as other gun rights organizations and it seems like it is not enough. but then again, who knows? The Piers Morgan petition garnered national media attention.

I am with those who advise to hold our powder. This part is just posturing. The Diane Frankenbill has so many holes in it that it could be tied up in court for the rest of her remaining career. Let the debate on the fiscal cliff, debt ceiling, and taxes take center stage. It will give time for the CT emotion to subside a bit. Like others have said we need to NOT give ammunition to the other side and we should lay back a bit. There is little possibility that anything will happen before the new congress gets sworn in. Of course those of us in CA are facing a democratic supermajority so there is little doubt that we will feel the pain before any national legislation takes form.

Res ipsa loquitur

This was never intended as anything but a means of letting DF, et al know that 1) we are paying attention, and 2) we will vigorously oppose her proposals.

If a large number of people sign, then it will get some media attention.

Really, what could the WH do with a sitting senator, and a powerful one from their own party at that?

Maybe the petition should have said, "We Petition Pres. Obama to Give Diane Feinstein a Good Scolding!"

I am glad we have a bunch of Constitutional scholars on this site, and I think it wonderful that you guys are ready to display your knowledge. But, after having repeatedly written my elected reps, made my donations supporting NRA, GOA, and SAF, I felt that more needed to be done. Having this petition come out right on the heels of her announcement does send a message, and the more signatures the louder.

Let me ask you this, do you think, given that the petition is up and cannot be changed, that having more signatures is going to help our cause, or hurt it?

I do not think that "holding our powder" is any kind of strategy. The more places that we can make ourselves heard the better. This takes nothing away from any other ongoing effort. If you don't want to sign it because it might make you feel stupid, fine, I can see that. But I think it is really folly to sit on our hands when we can be doing something. We need to let our opposition know the depth and breadth of our convictions.

Not really sure whether this was intended to be sarcastic, as I don't see anyone really discussing constitutional law here (more "what would be persuasive") - but, since you brought it up, my practice is heavily based in that arena.

I agree with Lee - this is best done by writing checks. You want to vigorously oppose DF's proposals? Well, that's what it takes.

To answer your latest Q, I think that more signatures make it easier to criticize all gun owners as buffoons. But it's a free country - you should do whatever you think is right.

What do you think about a bunch of people getting facial tattoos that say "Impeach Feinstein!"? Would that help? Or would it hurt?

I know that writing a check won't hurt.

Plus, many need to really know what 'impeachment' really is...

After all, Klinton got impeached...stayed in office...

Erich, I appreciate your feedback. Writing checks is great, I wish I could afford to do so. The point you seem to be evading is whether or not this could bring more attention to the issue by people who normally would not be bothered to look at the provisions of the proposal. Sending off your donation may or may not do that, but this is a very visible way to send a simple message. I know, your comment about facial tattoos indicates that you think it buffoonery, and certainly I would not expect *anyone* to sign a petition that they feel may lower their IQ just by viewing. But, at last check, there were ~2200 signers in the 8 hours this has been up who are willing to express their feelings in this venue. I apologize to anyone who feels that this is going to detract from the cause of gun rights, but I think that you may be expecting too much high minded discourse from the general public and the media. This is meant to get attention, and if wearing a clown suit is what it takes to further a good cause, then I guess I'll need to find the rubber nose. Do whatever you feel does the most good, I am on your side.

Default NRA

FWIW I have been trying to sign as manypeople up for tha NRA as I can. I gave memberships as Cristmas presents and also told them to sign up at least two people. Then the pyramid begins. The NRA has a lot of clout, the right clout. When they see the increase it may make them think. If we had allput more effort into it we would be wondering what Romney would be doing.

Phil, I appreciate your courteous and insightful position. I want to make it clear that I view that petition in only one way:

This about sending a message.
The message is that we want to hold enemies of our Constitution and Bill of Rights to account.
In that context, I believe that more signatures will be effective.
That is all.

I appreciate this site very much, and I do not wish to cause any undue teeth gnashing to anyone associated with this site, especially the owner or moderators. If you want to take this thread down you may, and you certainly do not need any permission to do so. No hard feelings either way, I hope. I think we are all on the same side, and divisiveness it the last thing I want to occur within the ranks of gun owners, especially at this time. I wish everyone a here a happy and safe New Year, and pray we have the strength to defeat our enemies.

Just passed the 20,000 mark, 5,000 needed for WH response. I think it would be nice to see this running as counterpoint to the news stories spot lighting the new AWB proposals she has promised to introduce in the Senate this week.

Impeach her? Unlikely, look at what Nixon/Clinton/Delay/Bush-Chaney etc. got away with....the only recourse is that the voters in Ca. not re-elect her and that's not likely either.
