Default Cuomo's state of the state speech on guns

I sat through Cuomo meandering through a whole laundry list of stuff before he finally got to what he wants for gun laws, in addition to the high cap mag ban, and banning assault weapons which he did not of course specify, he wants to have restrictions on ammunition which he did not specify but he wants to have a NICS check done on every single purchase of ammunition. I think we should definitely be getting ahold of legislators to make sure we don't let this foolishness through, or at least as much as possible because I am sure the downstate Republicans what few there are will cave as usual and the Assembly is solid Democrats. I know come 2014 we need to start flushing the toilet and getting rid of some of these officials, if there is anything left of this country in 2014.

I am ashamed. Our governor is known to shoot the dreaded assault AR15s on a private range near Austin. Don't know if he owns one or not, but it would not suprise me if he did. The poor man has also publically stated that he finds it relaxing to shoot rifles and pistols, and he goes to the range frequently. There have been no calls from the governor's office for more strict state gun laws. Open carry and allowing CCL holders to carry on college campi will probably be debated in the upcoming legislative session.

Not all of New York is like that. Unfortunately, Albany no longer fights to cancel out the ridiculousness spewing out of NYC, they are one in the same and ruining it for the rest of us.

Reminds me of the old joke. A tourist is visiting the city and asks a native New Yorker: "Can you tell me where the Empire State building is or should I just go **** myself?"

Seeing Cuomo’s speech remembered me my birth country Cuba and Castro’s discourses. You (the people) have to do what I want, you (the people) have to live the way I want you to live, you (the people) have to wear the close that I choose you to wear, you (the people) have to fight against the world for my ideas and I don’t care about your civil rights, I don’t care about your Constitutional rights, I don’t care about the statistics, I don’t care if is good or bad for you (the people)
I feel really scared of things like this happening in our country. Those liberals are blind trying to impose their thoughts without even discuss them or analyzing what is best for our nation and our sons. Let me tell you, I lived that before and IMHO this is the beginning of the end of the Democracy.

At least he didn't mandate the the country's new language would be Swedish. (from the Woody Allen movie Bananas).

We live at the Jersey shore -- I telecommute and my wife recently retired. Why do we stay here? We have a few elderly relatives and a daughter who found her "dream job" in Silicon Alley and commutes into NYC.

Manhattanites may always seem rushed, but I don't think they're terribly unfriendly. Their problem, to quote the late Douglas Adams, is that "The last time anybody made a list of the top hundred character attributes of New Yorkers, common sense snuck in at number 79."

From the few soundbites that I heard from Cuomo's speech, he sounded unhinged. If he's planning on running for President in 2016, I don't think that he will do well in either the red states or the purple states.

A NICS check on ammo, wow, it cost 15 bucks for a NICS check for a box of 10 dollar ammo. I know I would then only make bulk purchases and of course then they will scream, he's hoarding ammo and building an arsenal.
ost of these murdering nuts build bombs and booby traps when they go off and like to use propane tanks, I wonder if we need a NICS check to fill the backyard barbeque?
What country are we living in? It wasn't like this in the country I grew up in.

My favorite part was where he said that "Women don't need 10 bullets to stop a rapist!"

Or at least that how we should interpret his statement in our calls to our state legislators. We are all calling our state legislators, aren't we?

Have all the site members joined the NRA and the New York members joined the NYSRPA? The Albany and Syracuse gun shows are coming up soon (January and April) and both organizations have membership booths at the shows. Or you can always join up online.

It is past time to stand up and be counted.

It's obvious the Gov knows he cannot "ban" guns so he's trying to come in the backdoor by setting up obstacles to make ownership so difficult most people won't bother. 7 round magazines? Who has such a gun? Background check on ammo purchases? Create an underground market for ammo. I hope the Gov doesn't decide to take this approach with automobiles. Speed Kills. Solution: Put restrictive devices on all cars limiting them to 40 MPH. Perhaps the Gov is using this as a negotiating tactic, make extreme suggestions but later settle for less. I hope that's what he's doing because if he's serious gun owners in NY are in trouble.

From the audio I heard of Cuomo's rant on guns, it sounded like a fired up Ed Shultz. I'm so glad we have another moron like that, I was getting worried that we were running out.

It's a shame that people bash NYS for stereotypical reasons and political views they don't agree with. I am a New Yorker and feel that i am no better or worse than those who do so. I work like you do, raise my kids like you do and respect and treat people with dignity. It's no wonder we can't get together for a common purpose to support our 2nd amendment rights. We can't even respect people in other states that have laws that you cannot accept. Well, we can't accept them either and are trying to make a difference. New Yorkers are not all disrespectful, criminals, thugs, single mothers, welfare freeloaders or whatever thoughts you may have and our politicians are not acceptable to some including me so hopefully we can get them all voted out.

Where did you get this from? NY sucks period. Great landscape but really bad laws and politicians along with high costs living here make it the reason why this state is on the bottom of the list when it comes to economic success. NYC has drained this state and it continues to do so. The only reason why I'm still here is because my job offers full benefits and a pension. I have been looking to get out of this state and this recent gun ban is my last straw. NY by far is a nanny state just like California and if you have a chance to leave, it would be the best.

It came from some of the post in this thread and others i have seen on this forum. You are entitled to your opinion. My only point is that there is no need to bash it because its your opinion. Believe it or not there are some people that live here and like it and its offensive to some when they see their home being disrespected that's all... If you could not see that point in my post then I hope this clears it up for you.

No worries I misunderstood. I took it down because those who believe in the 2A need to come together...despite minor differences. Time to focus on the big picture IMO.

From what I recall being a ex NY'r of 24 yrs a neighbor on Long lsland had Atf people knocking on neighbors doors & asking questions regarding character because the person was applying for permit to buy a rifle. This happened in the 80's in Bayshore. I wouldn't be surprised if this happens with ammo purchases.

I just saw on the am news Senator Schumer was applauding Dick's Sporting Goods for taking down and now refusing to sell any more military looking rifles.
I wrote to Dick's and told them they will not get one nickle of buisness from me or anyone I can convince to join me. We've got to punish the retailers who are caving into this hysteria.
Senator Schumer also said it was "lunacy" to have a gun appreciation day.
