Gun buy back programs, Arizona style
Just caught a news item on legislation passed by the Arizona state legislature and signed into law by their governor that requires all state and local government agencies that perform so-called "gun buy backs" using public funds to sell those guns to FFL dealers. This essentially prohibits the use of public money for a politically motivated agenda while also providing for recovery of taxpayer dollars in the process.
I like it.

Is Jan Brewer still the Governor? It does
sound good. I guess in a sense it's a
trade in your junk to buy a new one. Or one person's
beater is another person's find?

Arizona already had a law requiring authorities to sell confiscated property at public auction to the highest bidder. On the surface, this would appear to make it illegal for state/city governments to destroy "buy back" guns. I'm betting many other states have similar laws.

Wow, I hope we consider something like that here in PA. It makes good sense really, considering the guns most of these programs are paying $100-$200 for could be sold to a reputable FFL for 2-5 times as much. (It always makes me die a little inside when I see some of the guns at these buybacks and think some dumb chuck sold THAT gun for $50?) At least these guns will go to a good home, and the morons who are selling their family heirlooms for gas money aren't destroying something historically valuable.

In KY, confiscated guns are required, by law, to be sold to FFL's. The proceeds are used to purchase bullet resistant vests for the smaller police agencies.

I think more of our states should adopt these types of laws. It might stop some of this nonsense going on
