Default Michigan and Connecticut: Second Amendment Legislative Alerts

In Michigan, SB 611 was introduced in November, 2015 to repeal Michigan's 2006 Self Defense Act (Stand Your Ground). The bill is apparently still in the Senate Judiciary Committee, so whether this legislation is on anyone's legislative front burner or not isn't for me to say. But the fact that it even made it to committee is troubling.

The bill was introduced by State Senator Rebekah Warren of Ann Arbor. The bill is co-sponsored by Coleman Young II, Curtis Hertel, Jr., and Jim Ananich.

In Connecticut, HB 5054 and HB 5623 are working their way through the legislature.

You may read more about those bills here.

It is my understanding that the Michigan bill that is lingering in committee will stay right there, and never make it out of committee. So I really don't think there is too much to fret over.

Except for one person, seems like no forum members from Michigan or Connecticut are real concerned about legislation that could potentially affect their 2nd Amendment rights.

Doesn't seem to have been much point in even bringing it up. Wish I could just get this thread deleted. What a waste of time. Maybe I can get a moderator to make it disappear.

Sir,

I appreciate your efforts in posting these updates. I do know that in the not too distant future, I will be relocating, and your information is helping to guide me. As a non-resident of the identified states, I feel that it is inappropriate for me to comment on pending legislation, except to boo from the sidelines, which is rarely effective. Still the same, thank you for your posts.

Watchdog - regardless of the concerns (or lack thereof) from the in-state folks, thanks for the heads up.

Watchdog...heck, keep posting. Just because lots of folks don't jump in and comment does not mean that the efforts are worthless.

The last gun ban was passed in ct with not much of a battle to reject it. They seem to pass anything they want here. They just keep on chopping away at our rights. The NRA wasn't repusented here too.

I think you're mistaking overwhelming information to dis-concern on the part of those involved . The gun grabbers are going all out in trying to create confusion with their agendas...you just cant keep up with everything , I know that from living here in the home of the revolution... I have to sit back and pick my battles , I'm sure others are also . Our direction as the greatest country in the world will be decided in November...until then , just treading water...

It figures states like these and Ma. and N.Y. get worse as others get better with 10 states passing permitless carry.

And MA comes up with some of the worse written and misunderstood laws in the world......just had a gun shipped here from TX and the effort was just plain unnecessary and foolish . WE have 2 lists of ' MA compliant ' guns to go by with our AG having her own list , that no one seems to be able to understand......just put there to complicate the crooked process more than it's worth...

CONSTANTINE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) -
Controversy continues to swirl over a proposed gun ban in the village of Constantine, and Monday, the village council reached a decision.

A little more than a dozen residents showed up to village hall to express their opinion about a ban on assault rifles. But it was the father of a Kalamazoo shooting survivor who had everyone's attention.

The debate over a ban on assault rifles is far from over in the village of Constantine.

"I guess, where is it your position to tell me what it is? I can understand fully automatic. (crosstalk) Ma'am, you brought this up, but I can kill you with a hammer a lot quicker," one resident said Monday.

Passionate gun owners stepped up to reject a ban they say has no place in their community.

"I want you to think about this; Cain killed Abel with a rock. It's not a gun problem it's a heart problem," said another resident.

The hot topic in the small West Michigan village prompted the father of 14 year-old Abigail Kopf, who was critically injured during the Kalamazoo mass shooting to weigh in on an issue he says can no longer be ignored.

"It's been an ongoing epidemic, and nothing has happened; you've heard many people say with all due regard, we pray that this happens, but that is not working," Gene Kopf said.

After back and forth comments, the proposed ban introduced by Council President Patricia Weiss was ultimately struck down.

"I am enormously disappointed; I had higher hopes for our council, but everyone is entitled to their own opinions," Weiss said.

Weiss says she will not make another push, and that she only wanted the issue to be brought to the forefront.

This was a complete waste of time and taxpayer money on the part of the council. Michigan has Statewide preemption that has been affirmed by a previous AG and has been upheld against several municipalities and the Huron Clinton Metropark Authority.
