Hawaii passes first law to put gun owners in database - CNN.com

I posted this easier now it's official.

"This will allow county police departments in Hawaii to evaluate whether the firearm owner may continue to legally possess and own firearms," the Hawaii governor's office said in a statement.

I find the statement by the governor very disconcerting. Allowing the police, not a court, to decide who can continue to own firearms.

First they ruin pizza (hat tip to Inside Out) and now they want the police to decide who can exercise their second amendment rights. Too bad the reverse isn't true...that the people can decide who can be an officer of the law...

How will they identify gun owners? Will it be anyone who fills out a 4473 after the date the law was enacted or even going back a ways? Voluntary admission? Slippery slope indeed. I like how the Left is now using "responsible gun ownership" as.a euphemism for gun control.

How many gun owners are there in Hawaii anyway? A couple dozen? Legal gun owners I mean.

If you watch Hawaii Five-0, you get the impression that 50% of the population is armed. I bet it's less than 5%.

I know, that's not the point tho. The camel has stuck his nose in the tent.

Aloha,

As I have stated before,

the Wife and I, and our 3 fur kids will be Leaving Hawaii as soon as she retires in 2017.

We're planning to move to Texas Hill Country.

This year we're going to visit her family in Texas,

and check out the Hill Country.

Once we move, we plan to have our shooting range

and have real BBQs, with real BBQ guns.

We would enjoy meeting other forum members.

100% Kona coffee will be available.

Default Hawaii's got nothing compared with CA....

Governor Brown just signed legislation requiring background checks for ammo purchases in 2019, and magazines more than 10 rounds will now be illegal to own. Way to go, Moonbeam...there are other laws, re-defining "assault" rifles as well.

Just one more reason why the next Supreme Court Justice pick is so crucial. Vote gun rights and join the NRA even if you own just one gun.

Exactly what the wife and I did. Left Hawaii for a free state and never looked back.

When we moved there from the mainland, one of the first things you're told to do is to register your name, address, and firearm with the HPD. No thank you. A data base like this is a convenient list of folks who can be located quickly when it's time confiscate firearms.

We just left in May. I might know you. We lived in Oahu in Honolulu and could be found in the Aikido dojo on Waialae pretty much every day of the week when not in school...lol.

If you read the article, it states that the list is maintained by the FBI. Sounds like a NICS check to me. If they want to do a criminal background check on me when I buy a firearm, I am not afraid.

The problem that I see, based on recent news of a hack at the DNC, is that these pools of names are not safe from being leaked. I am less afraid of the "black booted thugs" (as some people refer to them) kicking in my door than I am having any riff raff know that I am a gun owner.

The State of Hawaii requires all gun owners to present themselves and their weapons to the Firearms Section of the nearest police dept. to register the weapons within five days of purchase or within three days of entering the state. This is a state database separate from the federal 4473 process. State law applies to all weapons acquired since 1994. To my knowledge, weapons and their owners are not removed from the registry when someone permanently leaves the state. As HI law now requires that all registered gun owners are added to the FBI Rap Back program, this means thousands of people have now been involuntarily added to a federal gun registry. Downhill on the slippery slope.
