Sadly, billions of dollars is almost always going to outweigh the truth. We saw Bloomberg spend his money here in West Virginia, and unbelievably, our legislature finally passed "constitutional carry" last year, and even over rode the Governor's veto. But often, as this story in Utah points out, those vast sums of money will trump the truth.
Best Regards, Les

When I was still in Illinois the Union local I belonged to had a free non resident class for a Utah and Florida CCW.
I knew I was leaving soon so got both permits to be legal as soon as I entered Missouri.
The instructor said Utah was the most gun friendly state in the union.
What a shame pol's will sell out the folks of their state to enrich themselves.
VOTE THEM OUT.

NH is a Governors signature away from passing CC after failing for the last 2 years by way of former Governor, now US Senator Maggie Hassan`s veto.
NH`s new Governor, Chris Sununu, has pledged to sign CC into law.
So my message to you all in Utah is, keep up the fight. AT THE POLLS AND IN YOUR COMMUNICATIONS WITH CITIZENS AND ELECTED OFFICIALS ALIKE.

Sadly, this bill not advancing has zip to do with Bloomberg and his cronies. It has made to the desk of our Republican Governor Gary Herbert and he vetoed the bill. Even though it was vote on by a veto overturning majority it has not been taken back up.
It has been brought up in every legislative session since then but goes nowhere. It has everything to do with the fee that the State of Utah collects for its CFP permits. The government in Utah hates when they can't collect a fee. A lot of the instructors and shops that make money off classes also tend to not support Constitutional Carry; again, there is no money in it for them. When the governor says that the current laws are working for them; they aren't kidding. They make a lot of money of Utah CFP fees.
.hope that isn't being to political for the forum.

I also think it had a lot to do with the lobbying arm of those who make a living in the cottage industry of CCW classes as well.
That and the fact that CCW laws are fairly liberal and open carry legal, the proponents may not have been able to sell a need to the shooting public.

Not sure we can call open carry really legal. You can only open carry a loaded firearm in our state if you have Concealed Firearms Permit. Without a permit you can open carry a legally empty firearm.
Without question Utah not allowing Constitutional Carry is all about money being made on Concealed Firearm Permits by all involved.

We got Constitutional carry the first of the year and several local shops are reporting a sizable increase in CC permit training classes.

I wonder in the states that have just gone to constitutional carry whether the number of people seeking new permits or renewing their old permits has declined or increased in those states ..

We are one of those states, and I don't think we have ahead it long enough to gather statistics yet. Our sheriffs were opposed, as they get the fees from the Concealed Carry licenses. Also some of the instructors who teach the classes and get fees for the classes were against it.
But there was a lot of grassroots support for the law.
Best Regards, Les
