FYI: HB-201 Introduced today
This bill does what H-69 does and also eliminates the requirement to obtain a purchase permit from the Sheriff and continue the concealed permit program as it is for those that choose that route.
As with H-69, H-201 was referred to J-I.

Do you have a link for this? Or any source that goes into real detail about this?
Reason I ask is because the only HB-201 or H-201 I can reference refers to a bill years ago about zoning changes.

This is the filed bill. The "Edition 1" link does not seem to be working. I don't know if there has been any changes from "filed" to "Edition 1"
http://www.ncleg.net/Sessions/2017/B...PDF/H201v0.pdf
Here is the title of the bill which describes it:
AN ACT TO PROTECT A PERSON'S RIGHT TO CARRY A CONCEALED
HANDGUN WITHOUT A PERMIT, TO PURCHASE A HANDGUN WITHOUT A PISTOL PURCHASE PERMIT, AND TO CONTINUE ALLOWING PERSONS TO ACQUIRE A CONCEALED HANDGUN PERMIT FOR THE PURPOSE S OF RECIPROCITY OR FOR ANY OTHER REASON DESIRED
One never knows what the "Honorables" are up to with different bills. I have not tried to compare H-69 with H-201 line by line to see if there are any other differences than those in the titles.

As an aside, the S.C. House passed constitutional/open carry. Now we are waiting on the Senate.

A vote is coming up very soon, or not. It's crunch time, call your rep.

Sadly in Raleigh phone calls and emails do little if they want a bill to stay in committee. They always tell you "Well we had just as many calls and emails against".... (CYA) .....In Raleigh.....once in committee always in committee. Yes it's sad..but lived here all my life...seen it to many times......

I've heard that from quite a few natives.

If you live in North Carolina, as some of you posting here do, surely you're aware of what's going on in the legislature right now? I won't post any links to the issue...you can't live in this state and not be aware of it.
North Carolina legislators...at least those who can stay awake during session...are so wrapped up in other matters right now, the least of their concerns is a gun bill...especially a bill that comes up in one form or another in every administration and legislative session.
At the present time, rightly or wrongly, legislators have no interest at all in an obscure gun bill that would do nothing to increase the state's tax base and revenue generation potential.
That's a fact, and that's just how it is. Maybe after the current furor dies down (if it ever does) someone will decide to act on this latest gun bill. Right now, though, y'all are wasting your time hounding legislators about this gun bill. They aren't listening to you.

Well, last I heard it's headed to the House floor, I'm quite sure I'll be corrected if this is not so.

Actually H69 seems to be dead for the session. They are taking up H746. Similar, but not exactly the same bill. It passed the last committee this morning and was calendared for consideration today.
House is still in session as of 5:30 PM. They are debating the budget and arguing over amendments. Whether or not they will take up H746 today is anyone's guess. They will re-convene sometime after midnight to vote on the budget again. (NC law requires budget bills be voted and approved on two successive days. That's why they vote before midnight and then after to satisfy the requirement) Again, anyone's guess what they may consider before or after midnight. The bill in question only has to be voted on one more time.

In a way, I hope it doesn't pass this session, 'cause I just finished re-upping my permit for 5 more years for $95.
Is that selfish, or what?

Even if the bill passes I will keep/renew my Concealed Carry Permit and I am covered by state law as a current LEO and a retired LEO and by federal law under LEOSA. Keeping you permit will allow you to bypass the individual pistol purchase permits as it does now. It will also allow one to avail him/herself of the reciprocity granted by the concealed carry permits in other states.
There has been a great deal of mis-information put out by the media and certain groups about this bill. It does not eliminate Concealed Carry Permit nor does it eliminate purchase permits issued by the Sheriffs.

My thoughts exactly. Even if this bill passes I will keep my CCW permit for other reasons.
