NC resident or not, I think it's a great idea, to teach kids that firearms are to be respected for what they are, are not toys, but should not be feared.

My kids now 35 to 41 took a firearms safety course taught in Fort Mill SC middle schools. This was around 1987 - to early 90's. Included shooting a couple skeet targets with a shotgun. Haven't heard anything about it lately.

Just add it to a regular shop class in high school. Show them an unloaded gun is about as dangerous as a hammer. Then let them build a gun cabinet or two using the hammer.

With the exception of the Chapel Hill burnouts I've found NC to be a very tolerant place, as far as firearms go.

When I worked at UNC it was easy to spot the C.H. burnouts. Bad haircut, generally gray and frizzy, bad teeth, bad complexion, wearing faded and worn out clothing, driving a 10+ year old car, a nasty mouth, and never enough money to pay their bills.
