Default Illinois Proposed Law

Does anyone know what is going on in Illinois in regards to Springfield Armory?

I hear contradictory stories, some blaming Springfield for "selling out" and others saying it didn't happen.

Any facts?

I suppose you're referring to Illinois Senate Bill 1657. Otherwise known as The Gun Dealer Licensing Act. It proposes that firearms dealers be licensed at the state level in addition to the federal level.

It passed the Senate.

The reports that Springfield Armory and Rock River Arms "sold out" are pure baloney...fake news at its finest, far as I'm concerned.

No need to listen to contradictory stories when it's easy to look up the stuff about this.

Rather than get into the whole Springfield Armory-Rock River Arms-IFMA thing here, just click here to read about it. Or here. Or even here.

Both companies are located less than 90 minutes from my home. I have been a fierce supporter of Springfield Armory since the 1970's and Rock River Arms since the mid 1990's.

This is one of several articles written about Springfield Armory, Rock River Arms and SB1657. Springfield Armory & Rock River Arms Made Campaign Contributions to Anti-Gun Rights Politicians - The Truth About Guns

The owners of both companies are on the board of directors of IFMA. The IFMA made political donations to anti-Second Amendment politicians from the Chicago area and both SAI and RRA are catching a lot of heat over it. I took a wait and see attitude at first until I read documents people dug up and posted online showing their political support for these people.

At this point enough information has been uncovered to show both companies were caught red handed and are managing damage control. The proposed legislation adversely affects roughly 3,000 FFL's and 2.1 million firearm owners. I own products made by both companies. From this point forward I will not purchase anything made by SAI or RRA.

this is just another attempt to add greater taxation to aid uncontrolled spending.....effective soon in the "land of Lincoln"....the beverage tax ---one cent per ounce on all sweeten beverages....the bag tax---seven cents per bag given out at retail stores to put your purchases in.....and the hits just keep on comin.....

I view SB1657 as a two pronged attack. It is viewed as both a revenue generator and the first step toward prohibiting private firearm ownership.

I worked in some of the most violent areas in the state and in my professional opinion the only thing the bill will accomplish is to crush small business owners. I telephoned Representative Ryan Spain's office in Springfield, shared my professional experience and told them of my strong opposition to the legislation.

Don't limit yourself to calling the Representative for your district. I encourage Illinois residents to contact Representatives from adjoining districts to voice opposition as well.

Its not "pure baloney". Not unless your a sucker who believes fairy tales. Heres what happened chronologically. This bill passed the IL. Senate by one vote, "now if you live in IL. you automatically have your hackles rise when a bill passes by one vote". That implies the fix is in.

So it seems IFMA, the IL. Firearms Manufacturing Assc. dropped its opposition to the bill which allowed it to pass. What IFMA did was negotiate an exemption for its members to not be affected by the bill, and to hell with everyone else, and while doing so IFMA made political contributions to several rabid anti-2nd Politicians in the state.

OK? You with me so far? Well "IFMA" consists of one Lobbyist, a guy named Jay Keller, and IFMA is supported by Springfield Arms and Rock River to the tune of $50,000 each, as far as I know they are the only supporters. And so this onerous, stupid legislation passes the Senate.

Well the word gets out and what do the two companies say? They say they had no idea IFMA had done what it had done. So exactly what does this mean? Or is supposed to mean?

It means SA and RRA expect us to be stupid enough to believe they were greasing all those anti-gun politicians and giving the ONE Lobbyist and IFMA $100,000, concerning a piece of legislation that would impact "and possibly destroy" their business's and they had no idea IFMA was doing it. Dude you have to be a real moron to believe that. Most of all in such a corrupt state that has sent 4 of its last 8 Governors to jail.

So then this ridiculous story doesn't pacify the fools who buy their products. Next up is they say they are firing IFMA, or the Lobbyist. The same Lobbyist who went to such great lengths greasing the system for them, for so long, for their benefit, and without them even know what their $100,000+ was doing for them.

Last I heard gun owners were still cussing them and ringing their phones off the hook. Last I heard they came out of the phone booth switching costumes like Superman and now are in vocal opposition to this bill.

These forums are Laced with reps and workers and people who have financial stakes in companies and products. Some are just shooters who dont mind being shills for their favorite products the truth be damned. Well I'm neither and I'm telling you both these companies pulled a real sneaky, dirty one in a real sneaky dirty state. And then they made it even worse by BS'ing all of us as if were fools. I don't know how someone from the east coast becomes so conversant with Illinois politics, but here are some FACTs (not news reports) about RRA and SA: between the two of them, they provide almost all the funding for the Illinois Firearm Manufacturers Association; Chuck Larson of RRA was association treasurer; Dennis Reese of RRA was association president; both said, in effect, "Gee, we didn't know our lobbyist agreed at the last minute to be neutral on the bill if firearm manufacturers were excepted."
Ya know, if it walks like a duck . . . .

Yes. They got caught red-handed. All over websites that report such things.

No biggie for me. I have a RRA BCG in one of my ARs. Bought and then sold a Springfield Loaded 1911 some years back. They don't make anything I can't get elsewhere.
