Angry No Constitutional Carry for South Carolina This Year

The South Carolina legislature will end its session on May 11 without taking any further action on pro-gun bills. That means these bills are dead for the remainder of the year.

Quoting from the May 7 issue of the Augusta Chronicle:

"COLUMBIA — South Carolina legislation that lets more people carry guns, legalizes medical marijuana and borrows money to repair public buildings statewide are among proposals dead for the year.

Advocates and opponents of various gun bills have filled committee meetings, but none of those controversial bills will make it.

The House passed a bill allowing any adult who can legally own a handgun to openly carry it in South Carolina, negating the need for a concealed weapon permit. Law enforcement officials oppose the idea, saying people should undergo training before carrying a gun in public. A Senate panel advanced an identical bill last week, setting up debate next year by a full Senate committee. Similar bills have died repeatedly in the Senate since 2011.

Bills that don’t make it to McMaster’s desk this year don’t die completely. They won’t have to be reintroduced. The process will pick up next year at whatever point legislation is when the gavel falls Thursday."

So even though it's dead for this year, the possibility remains that pro-2A bills will receive some positive reactions from South Carolina legislators when they reconvene next year.

South Carolina, like Florida will not let go of their pay to carry. Without a movement like OTC to push them it will never happen. And even Texas they still have to pay to OC. From people I have met from SC most, including gun owners, are anti constitutional carry. They are afraid of OC, and believe people should jump through hoops to carry concealed.

NC has had constitutional OC for 80 years with none of the problems they perceive. They know that, so it boils down to follow the money.

Please don't put me in that group. Our group is, has been and will be a Constitutional Carry group. Our reps are mostly one sided and not hindered with the facts.

I'd like to see the ban on CC lifted on schools, medical facilities, and houses of worship. Good guys are disarmed while bad guys don't care.
